COMMENDING Firefighter Thomas Macaulay upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition
after 50 years of dedicated service to the Massena
Volunteer Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout
the Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the
arduous field of fire protection and prevention; and

WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Firefighter
Thomas Macaulay upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition after 50 years of dedicated service to the Massena Volunteer
Fire Department to be celebrated at its annual banquet on Saturday,
October 14, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Thomas "Tom" Macaulay has been a very valuable asset to the
Massena Volunteer Fire Department since joining on November 20, 1967;
and

WHEREAS, During his 50 years of service, Tom Macaulay has held the
esteemed positions of Lieutenant, Captain, Chief, and Treasurer of the
department; he was elected as Lieutenant of Hose Company 1, serving from
April 1982 until March 1984; he was then designated into the role of
Captain of Hose Company 1, serving from April 1984 until April 2000; and

WHEREAS, In April of 2001, Tom Macaulay was again elected as Captain
of Hose Company 1, holding that position until he was elected 2nd
Assistant Chief in April 2004; two years later, he was selected as 1st
Assistant Chief which he held until he was elected Chief of the Massena
Volunteer Fire Department in April of 2008, the position he held until
April of 2010; and

WHEREAS, After he completed his duty as Chief, Tom Macaulay was
elected Treasurer, the admired position he still holds today;
furthermore, he was named Fireman of the Year in 1998 by his peers; and

WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only
provide the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other
activities of great benefit and importance to the communities they
serve; and

WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need;
Tom Macaulay is such a firefighter; throughout 50 years of devoted
service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter Thomas Macaulay upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition after 50 years of dedicated service to the
Massena Volunteer Fire Department; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Firefighter Thomas Macaulay.
