Senate Resolution No. 342

MOURNING the death of David Weinberger,
distinguished citizen and founding member of the
Hatzolah volunteer ambulance service
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding leaders whose professional lives, personal endeavors, and
community service are an example and inspiration; and
WHEREAS, David Weinberger of the Lower East Side of Manhattan died
on Wednesday, October 11, 2016, at the age of 74; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, David
was an active and dedicated member of the Grand Street community and the
local Bialystoker Synagogue; and
WHEREAS, David served as the Community Coordinator at the United
Jewish Council of the East Side, a human services agency providing home
care, senior services, and other social services; and
WHEREAS, David responded to local emergencies and provided local
care as a member of the Hatzolah Volunteer Ambulance Corps for nearly 30
years; and
WHEREAS, David served as a Board Member of Community Board 3, and
worked closely with elected officials, local residents, and government
agencies; and
WHEREAS, David was a member of the Community Advisory Board of
Gouverneur Health, a health facility dedicated to ensuring that all New
Yorkers have access to high quality care regardless of ability to pay,
language spoken, or immigration status; and
WHEREAS, David took an active role in local government and politics,
including serving as a longtime District Leader who organized meetings
and events across the neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, David is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Hedy
Weinberger, their three children, and several grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, David leaves behind a legacy which will long endure and
remain as a comforting memory to all he knew and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of David Weinberger, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of the Lower East Side community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of David Weinberger.
