CONGRATULATING the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls
Varsity Cross Country Team upon the occasion of
winning the 2017 Nike Cross Nationals
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive athletics can be
achieved only through rigorous training, mental and physical discipline,
teamwork and a dedicated coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young individuals within our midst, who by achieving outstanding success
in athletic competitions, have inspired and brought great pride to their
school district and community; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and by
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Cross Country Team
upon the occasion of winning the 2017 Nike Cross Nationals; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the outstanding members of
the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Cross Country Team proved to be a
terrific combination of talent throughout their entire season; and
WHEREAS, Before advancing to the national competition, the
Fayetteville Girls Varsity Cross Country Team won the NYSPHSAA Class A
Championship on November 11, 2017, at Wayne High School in Ontario
Center, New York; this victory marked the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls
Varsity Cross Country Team's 12th consecutive state title in the sport;
and
WHEREAS, On December 2, 2017, the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity
Cross Country Team dominated the 14th Annual Nike Cross Nationals at
Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, Oregon; this remarkable team
captured first place, with an overall score of 89, defeating 21 other
seven-person high school teams, which had qualified for the race via
State competitions; and
WHEREAS, The Nike-sponsored course, with obstacles, rolling hills
and tree-lined fairways, delivered a classic interpretation of the
Pacific Northwest's storied running environments in front of an
enthusiastic crowd; and
WHEREAS, The Nike Cross Nationals win was the Fayetteville-Manlius
Girls Varsity Cross Country Team's 11th team title, further establishing
the program as a national powerhouse; and
WHEREAS, No team can succeed without talent throughout its entire
roster, as is the case with the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Cross
Country Team of Katie Berge, Lejia Boracilo, Hannah Brown, Chloe
Bullough, Emily Cook, Isabell Crovella, Sarah Crovella, Grace Kaercher,
Palmer Madsen, Erin McDowell, Grace Perry, Rory Pfohl, Alexandra Raven,
Sophia Ryan, Flavia Scott, Claire Snyder, Alex Villalba, Rebecca
Walters, Claire Walters, Phoebe White, and Rebecca White; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by the Fayetteville-Manlius
Girls Varsity Cross Country Team is due in great part to the efforts of
Head Coach Bill Aris, Assistant Coach Kyle Brazeil, and Volunteer Coach
Jim Nixdorf, who are skilled and inspirational mentors, respected for
their ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Coaches Bill Aris, Kyle Brazeil, and Jim Nixdorf did a
superb job in guiding, molding and inspiring the members of the
Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Cross Country Team toward their
goals; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Cross
Country Team upon the occasion of winning the 2017 Nike Cross Nationals;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the aforementioned members and coaches of the
Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Cross Country Team.
