HONORING Pat Carey upon the occasion of his
induction into the Rockland Community College Sports
Hall of Fame on January 19, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Pat Carey upon the occasion of his induction into the Rockland Community
College Sports Hall of Fame, to be celebrated with a Gala on Friday,
January 19, 2018, at Nyack Seaport; and

WHEREAS, Pat Carey is a 1994 graduate of North Rockland High School,
where he was a renowned member of the Boys Varsity Baseball Team,
helping the Rams to three consecutive Class A State Championships from
1992-1994; and

WHEREAS, During this time, Pat Carey was selected as the Rockland
County Player of the Year and was the runner-up for the Journal News
State Player of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Pat Carey went on to play two seasons at shortstop for
Rockland Community College where he was instrumental in the Hawks 1995
Region XV Title; he was named Mid-Hudson Conference Player of the Year
in 1996, and continued his successful college baseball career at
Providence College; and

WHEREAS, This extraordinary athlete returned to Rockland Community
College as an assistant baseball coach for three years before being
named head coach in 2003; during his illustrious coaching tenure the
Hawks had an impressive 44-28 record; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, under the able leadership of Pat Carey, the
Hawks won the Mid-Hudson Conference and Region XV Championships; he was
subsequently named the Region XV Coach of the Year in both 2003 and
2004; and

WHEREAS, Pat Carey moved on to serve as an assistant coach at
Fordham University for one season before taking over as head coach at
Iona College in 2005; in this capacity, he has once again found great
success, leading the Gaels to the Mid-Atlantic Conference Championships
in 2017; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Diana, and their
two children, A.J. and Nicole, who have all shown him love and support
and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, Pat Carey has been an inspiration to countless Hawks
baseball fans, as well as to the community-at-large, and accordingly

merits recognition and applause for his tremendous passion for the game
and competitive spirit; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are brought to
our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Pat Carey upon the occasion of his induction into the Rockland
Community College Sports Hall of Fame on January 19, 2018; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Pat Carey.
