MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
January 14, 2018, as Ratification Day in the State
of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official days that are set aside to ensure that the complete history of
our State and Nation is preserved and shared with the present
generations of citizens; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim January 14, 2018, as
Ratification Day in the State of New York, in conjunction with the
observance of National Ratification Day; and

WHEREAS, Ratification Day is observed annually on January 14 in
recognition of the act that officially ended the American Revolution;
and

WHEREAS, A proclamation was issued by the Confederation Congress on
April 11, 1783, "Declaring the cessation of arms" against Great Britain,
and congress approved the preliminary articles of peace on April 15,
1783; and

WHEREAS, This official day is in commemoration of the ratification
of the Treaty of Paris on January 14, 1784, at the Maryland State House
in Annapolis, Maryland by the Confederation Congress, establishing the
United States as a sovereign entity; and

WHEREAS, Events which provide a means of preserving a part of our
rich American past and which contribute to the community in such noble
endeavors are held in the highest regard by this Legislative Body; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim January 14, 2018, as
Ratification Day in the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
