COMMEND Alan H. Fishman upon the occasion of his
retirement after 14 years of distinguished service
to Brooklyn Academy of Music's Board of Trustees
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Alan H. Fishman upon the occasion of his retirement after 14
years of distinguished service to Brooklyn Academy of Music's Board of
Trustees at The Alan Gala on Tuesday, April 4, 2017; and
WHEREAS, For the past 14 years, Alan H. Fishman rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to Brooklyn Academy of Music's Board
of Trustees; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, Alan H. Fishman has
continually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence
and diligent leadership in his unwavering service as Chairman of the
Board of Trustees of the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), a multi-arts
center which has been the home for adventurous artists, audiences and
ideas; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as Chairman of the Brooklyn Academy of
Music's Board of Trustees, Alan H. Fishman served with loyalty, honor
and distinction; and
WHEREAS, Alan H. Fishman held the title of BAM Chairman from
2002-2016, and continues to serve as Chairman Emeritus; in addition to
all his other contributions, he and his wife helped raise funds for the
construction of the BAM Fisher, a theater that was named the Judith and
Alan Fishman Space in their honor; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Alan H. Fishman also serves on
Boards of several private companies and other not-for-profit and civic
organizations, and is the Chairman of the Brooklyn Community Foundation;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout his noble career, he served as the President of
Sovereign Bank and both President and CEO of its predecessor,
Independence Community Bank; currently, he holds the position of
Chairman of Ladder Capital Finance; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Alan H. Fishman was governed by a
keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems;
and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with Brooklyn Academy of Music's Board of
Trustees, Alan H. Fishman earned the admiration, esteem and affection of
his colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Alan H. Fishman upon the occasion of his retirement after 14 years
of distinguished service to Brooklyn Academy of Music's Board of
Trustees, and to wish him continued success in all his future endeavors;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Alan H. Fishman.
