HONORING Esther Thorne upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2018 Scholarship
Award by the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris
Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the young
adults of today and leaders of tomorrow whose character and achievements
best exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Esther Thorne upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2018 Scholarship Award by the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter
of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will be celebrated at the 20th
Annual Tuition Assistance Awards Gala, "Celebrating A Twenty Year Legacy
of Mentoring Excellence" on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Anthony's
Pier 9, New Windsor, New York; and

WHEREAS, An exceptional student-athlete at Ramapo High School,
Esther Thorne was selected to the National Academic League during the
last two years and vied against other high schools in knowledge-based
competitions; she is also a member of the swimming, diving and track and
field teams; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Esther Thorne is a member of the National,
Technical, Social Studies, and English Honor Societies and has been
recognized by Rockland Community College for academic excellence; and

WHEREAS, A young woman of many interests, Esther Thorne also enjoys
dancing, music, and serving at both her church and the local animal
shelter; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Esther Thorne plans to continue her
education studying engineering in aid of environmental sustainability at
the Rochester Institute of Technology; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her high school career, Esther Thorne has
displayed exceptional academic achievement, a strong sense of community
responsibility, and a commitment to excellence which is unparalleled;
and

WHEREAS, Esther Thorne, in achieving this academic honor, may take
just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of
excellence she brings to her family, friends, community and school; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Esther Thorne upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2018 Scholarship Award by the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris

Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., and to extend best wishes for a future
of purposeful success and well-being; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Esther Thorne.
