COMMENDING Officer Marc Pennetti upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal,
the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate

WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of community life are cherished
values, worthy of safeguarding, and this Legislative Body is moved to
honor those individuals who serve to preserve and protect such values,
lauding particularly their unwavering courage and dedication in the
daily performance of their duties; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
caring concern and heroic acts of those exemplary police officers who
take prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, and in doing
so, help others to avert life-threatening danger; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Officer Marc
Pennetti upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty
Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York
State Senate; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, A two year veteran of the NYPD, Officer Pennetti responded
to the call of a late morning fire on the 11th floor of Dayton Beach
Park development in the Rockaways on Friday, January 12, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Upon arriving on the scene, Officer Marc Pennetti, along
with his partner, rushed into the building without hesitation or regard
for his own safety and rescued a trapped occupant on the 12th floor of
the building, carrying them to safety; and

WHEREAS, Extraordinarily, Officer Marc Pennetti then rushed back
into the burning building and rescued a second trapped victim on the
11th floor; and

WHEREAS, Officer Marc Pennetti should be regarded as a true hero; he
has continually devoted himself to public service, demonstrating great
courage and diligence in providing for the care and welfare of the
citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Praised for maintaining his composure and his professional
conduct, Officer Marc Pennetti demonstrated his true character and
genuine compassion for the well-being of others; and

WHEREAS, In addition to serving as a member of New York's Finest,
Officer Marc Pennetti is also a volunteer Firefighter with the Island
Park Volunteer Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; Officer Marc
Pennetti is one such individual; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Officer Marc Pennetti upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Officer Marc Pennetti.
