COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the Cannon
Free Library on April 18, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across the great
State of New York is reflective of certain exemplary institutions whose
purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the needs of its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Cannon Free Library, to be
recognized with a Centennial Celebration on Wednesday, April 18, 2018,
in Delhi, New York; and
WHEREAS, Established on April 9, 1918, the Cannon Free Library
strives to enhance the Delhi community by providing free access to
information in varied formats for lifelong learning and enrichment in an
open and welcoming environment; and
WHEREAS, Henry Cannon, a progressive benefactor born in Delhi in
1850, began his career as a teller at the Delaware National Bank of
Delhi; he went on to found two banks in Minnesota, and was later
appointed Comptroller of the Currency by President Arthur in 1884; and
WHEREAS, A century later, the Cannon Family continues its legacy of
service to the community by remaining staunch supporters of the Library;
and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, the Cannon Free Library
provides resources, services and programs necessary to meet the
informational and educational needs of the residents of the Town of
Delhi and the surrounding towns; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Cannon Free Library is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its Director, Stacey Tromblee, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the Library and the community
it serves; and
WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud and distinguished history, the Cannon
Free Library may take just pride in its purposeful growth, as it looks
forward to continuing to serve the educational, cultural and
intellectual needs of the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Cannon Free Library on April
18, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Stacey Tromblee, Director, Cannon Free Library.
