CONGRATULATING Robb Munro upon the occasion of
being named Men's Cross Country National Coach of
the Year

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those
individuals of outstanding character within the State of New York who
are dedicated to developing character and sportsmanship in our
collegiate athletes; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Robb Munro upon the occasion of being named Men's Cross
Country National Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Robb Munro attended Virginia Tech, and
then transferred to the University of Delaware where he earned his
bachelor's degree in History Education; he furthered his education by
obtaining his master's degree in Education from the University of New
England and a USATF Level II Certificate for Endurance Events; and

WHEREAS, An exceptionally gifted athlete, Robb Munro was both a New
York State Class C/D Champion and All-American in the steeplechase at
Sidney High School; in collegiate sports, he received 11 total varsity
letters in cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field; and

WHEREAS, Robb Munro spent 11 years teaching at Bainbridge-Guilford
Middle/High School in Bainbridge, New York; while there, he primarily
coached the Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Teams; in addition, he
worked with athletes in Harpursville and Greene; and

WHEREAS, Robb Munro then began his distinguished career at SUNY
Delhi; after taking over the cross country and track and field programs,
the college has produced 16 individual National Champions, 63
All-Americans, six Academic All-Americans and earned two National
Titles; and

WHEREAS, In addition, under Coach Munro's luminous leadership, the
SUNY Delhi men have won a conference title, two regional titles and
placed third at the National Championships three times; the women have
been runners-up in the conference and the region twice and also placed
third at the National Championships in 2013; and

WHEREAS, The track teams have fared even better; the men and women
swept the regional titles in 2014 and 2015, and the women went on to win
the National Championship in 2014, the 20th National Title in SUNY Delhi
Athletics history, and the men were National Runners-up, just seven
points behind the winners; and

WHEREAS, In 2015, the men's team won the National Championship and
the women's team were the runners-up; the men's team also established a
new Championship record for points scored and winning margin; and

WHEREAS, During the last two seasons, the SUNY Delhi Track and Field
Team have produced 48 All-Americans; in 2016, the team placed first in
the USCAA, and the men's team won the USCAA National Invitational while
the women placed fourth; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Stephanie, and his
two sons, Liam and Finley, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Coach Robb Munro has done a superb job in guiding, molding
and inspiring the team members toward their goals; and

WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride
and accomplishment, and Coach Robb Munro and his outstanding athletes
have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of their school; and

WHEREAS, Coach Robb Munro's positive demeanor, selfless commitment,
and caring concern have contributed to his enduring success as a coach
and mentor, earning him the just respect and admiration of his
community, his peers, and the athletes he has so ably coached; and

WHEREAS, With his unremitting commitment to the SUNY Delhi Cross
Country and Track and Field Teams, Robb Munro is the quintessential
selection as Coach of the Year; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Robb Munro upon the occasion of being named Men's Cross
Country National Coach of the Year; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Robb Monro.
