COMMEMORATING the 30th Anniversary of the Beatrice
Victor Senior Olympics

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize
organizations which faithfully serve the needs of the community and its
citizens with diligence and compassionate commitment to improving the
quality and dignity of life in the community; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Beatrice Victor Senior Olympics,
to be celebrated October 7-12, 2018; and

WHEREAS, In 1987, Beatrice Victor approached the board of the Jewish
Community Center, New York City Parks Department, YMCA, New York City
Department for the Aging, and the then-editor of the Staten Island
Advance, to launch the Senior Olympics of Staten Island; and

WHEREAS, The College of Staten Island was added to this
extraordinary event's list of sponsors in 2016, during which time the
Olympic wreath was also added to its program; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of the tireless efforts of Beatrice Victor,
the Senior Olympics of Staten Island is known today as the Beatrice
Victor Senior Olympics; and

WHEREAS, The Beatrice Victor Senior Olympics allows individuals 50
years old and up to participate in competitive activities including:
Ballroom Dancing, Basketball Shoot, Bocce, 8 Ball Pool, Bowling, Bridge,
Darts, Canasta, Checkers, Chess, Cornhole, Croquet, Golf, Horseshoes,
Mahjong, Miniature Golf, Pickleball, Pinochle Predict-a-Pace, Scrabble,
Shuffleboard, Swimming, Table Tennis and Tennis; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, these activities are divided into age groups,
giving these seniors the chance to win the coveted gold, silver and
bronze medals; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 30-year history, the Beatrice Victor
Senior Olympics has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and
communities which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Beatrice Victor Senior Olympics is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its volunteers, whose involvement
is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves;
and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Beatrice Victor
Senior Olympics; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Beatrice Victor Senior Olympics;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Beatrice Victor, Beatrice Victor Senior Olympics, Staten
Island, New York.
