COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of Residents
for a More Beautiful Port Washington on March 16,
2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Residents for a More Beautiful Port
Washington to be celebrated at a Gala on Friday, March 16, 2018, at
Leonard's Palozzo in Great Neck, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1968, a small group of concerned citizens gathered over
coffee to discuss the state of the Port Washington community; by the end
of their meeting, they decided to organize into an environmental action
group and focus on improving the quality of life in their community,
educate its residents about the environment and its impact on health,
and develop policy and planning initiatives; and
WHEREAS, For the next 15 years, with no office space or staff and
very little money, the group met monthly in each other's homes to talk
about issues, and take affirmative steps to understand and resolve them
through community-wide preservation projects and educational
initiatives; and
WHEREAS, Through the last five decades, more and more people have
joined in the venture to protect Port Washington; numerous individuals,
families and businesses are truly dedicated to helping this vital
organization realize its mission of environmental stewardship; and
WHEREAS, Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington has
accomplished many goals and diligently strives to improve and strengthen
its educational programs, smart growth initiatives, advocacy campaigns
and beautification efforts in and around Port Washington; and
WHEREAS, The success of Residents for a More Beautiful Port
Washington is in direct correlation to the efforts of Executive Director
Mindy Germain and her staff, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the institution and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon all citizens to recognize and applaud
the efforts of organizations such as Residents for a More Beautiful Port
Washington which work tirelessly on behalf of protecting our natural
surroundings for the benefit of present and future generations of New
Yorkers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Residents For A More Beautiful Port
Washington on March 16, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mindy Germain, Executive Director, Residents for a More
Beautiful Port Washington.
