COMMENDING Mary M. Koren upon the occasion of her
designation as Deputy Marshal of the 2018 Bay Ridge
St. Patrick's Day Parade

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who work
diligently to preserve and celebrate their rich cultural heritage; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Mary M. Koren upon the occasion of her designation as Deputy
Marshal of the 2018 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and

WHEREAS, In acknowledgment of this most prestigious appointment,
Mary M. Koren will march as Deputy Marshal of the 25th Annual Bay Ridge
St. Patrick's Day Parade down 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, on
Sunday, March 25, 2018; and

WHEREAS, The Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade is meant to
recognize and celebrate Irish culture, heritage and pride, for those who
have emigrated here from the Emerald Isle, the Irish-American community,
as well as those who are Irish in spirit; and

WHEREAS, Mary M. Koren was born to Frances and Benjamin Koren in
Brooklyn, New York, where she was a student at Our Lady of Angels (OLA)
School and St. John Villa Academy; after graduating, she attended Staten
Island Community College, and then transferred to Richmond College where
she earned her bachelor's degree in business and economics; and

WHEREAS, Mary M. Koren began her 35-year career in the banking and
financial Industry as a teller at Fiduciary Trust; she rose through the
ranks to become an Assistant Vice President in the Operations
Department; currently, she is holds the title of Client Specialist at
Bay Ridge Financial Group and CPA Tax Planning; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to her parish, Mary M. Koren enjoys volunteering
at OLA in various capacities such as Director of the Folk Mass,
Extraordinary Minister, Assistant Leader of Girl Scouts, and as Service
Unit co-Manager; and

WHEREAS, This remarkable woman is also a member of the Thomas Hughes
Council of the Columbiettes No. 481, supports the Guy M. Stewart Cancer
Fund, and serves as Treasurer of American Legion Auxiliary No. 157, and
Vice President of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians No. 22; and

WHEREAS, When she is not working or helping someone, Mary M. Koren
loves to root for the Brooklyn Cyclones Baseball Team, and travel to
Walt Disney World with her sister, Frances; and

WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and


WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal for the Bay Ridge St.
Patrick's Day Parade, Mary M. Koren embodies the spirit and the
cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State and
Nation; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Mary M. Koren upon the occasion of her designation as Deputy
Marshal of the 2018 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mary M. Koren.
