COMMENDING Christopher Ruddy upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by The
Cathedral Club of Brooklyn on February 9, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those distinguished citizens who devote their time and
energies to the service of their community and profession, participating
in civic affairs and enhancing the character and quality of life for all
citizens; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Christopher Ruddy upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by The Cathedral Club of Brooklyn, to be celebrated
at its 117th Anniversary Dinner on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at the
New York Marriott Marquis in New York, New York; and

WHEREAS, In addition, His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan will serve
as this year's Keynote Speaker; and

WHEREAS, Founded on March 1, 1900, the Cathedral Club of Brooklyn is
the primary Catholic lay organization in the Diocese of Brooklyn; its
members work to advance Catholic interests, promote the moral
improvement of its members, foster their Catholic spirit, and unite them
through social gatherings held in pursuit of its mission; and

WHEREAS, Christopher Ruddy earned his Bachelor of Arts degree summa
cum laude in History from St. John's University in New York; he
furthered his education by obtaining his master's degree in Public
Policy from the London School of Economics; he also studied Mid-East
Politics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Christopher Ruddy served as a Media Fellow at
the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace at Stanford
University; he was the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate of Letters
from St. John's University; and

WHEREAS, In 1998, Christopher Ruddy founded Newsmax Media, Inc., a
broadcasting and multimedia publishing company whose content covers
news, politics, health, lifestyle and finance; and

WHEREAS, In 2014, Newsmax Media, Inc. launched Newsmax TV, a 24/7
informational and lifestyle network; the company's flagship website,
Newsmax.com, is consistently ranked as one of the country's most
trafficked news websites with comScore reporting its total reach at 50
million Americans monthly; and

WHEREAS, As a journalist, Christopher Ruddy worked at the New York
Post and the Pittsburgh Tribune Review; throughout his luminous career,
he has conducted interviews with political, business, and world leaders,
including Bill Clinton, the late Sir John Templeton, Donald Trump and
Mikhail Gorbachev; and

WHEREAS, Devoted to his profession, Christopher Ruddy is a member of
the Board of Directors of the Financial Publishers Association, the
industry organization representing investment publications and their 25
million paid subscribers monthly; and

WHEREAS, Christopher Ruddy is also a member of the Kissinger Council
of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), chaired by
Dr. Henry Kissinger; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Christopher Ruddy upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by The Cathedral Club of Brooklyn on February 9,
2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Christopher Ruddy.
