COMMENDING Brendan Moloney upon the occasion of
his designation as Deputy Marshal of the 2018 Bay
Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who work
diligently to preserve and celebrate their rich cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Brendan Moloney upon the occasion of his designation as Deputy
Marshal of the 2018 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and
WHEREAS, In acknowledgment of this most prestigious appointment,
Brendan Moloney will march as Deputy Marshal of the 25th Annual Bay
Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade down 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn, New York,
on Sunday, March 25, 2018; and
WHEREAS, The Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade is meant to
recognize and celebrate Irish culture, heritage and pride, for those who
have emigrated here from the Emerald Isle, the Irish-American community,
as well as those who are Irish in spirit; and
WHEREAS, Brendan Moloney has always strived to help others and serve
the people in his community, whether it be through his church or as a
teacher who truly wanted to make a difference in his student's lives;
and
WHEREAS, Brendan Moloney was born to Edward and Kathleen Moloney in
Bay Ridge, Brooklyn; he attended St. Patrick's Grammar School, and
Xaverian High School, where he was the recipient of the Service Award;
and
WHEREAS, After graduating, Brendan Moloney earned his degree from
St. Joseph's College in downtown Brooklyn; during this time, he was
actively involved in Student Government and various clubs, engaged in
many leadership building workshops, and traveled for conferences; and
WHEREAS, For four years, Brendan Moloney has served as a Catechist
for St. Patrick's Religious Education program helping prepare the 8th
grade students for their confirmation; and
WHEREAS, In September of 2017, Brendan Moloney fulfilled his dream
of becoming a Middle School English Language Arts teacher at St.
Patrick's Catholic Academy; and
WHEREAS, Brendan Moloney is very proud of his Irish-American
heritage; his paternal ancestors hail from Co. Tipperary and Co. Cork
and his maternal ancestors hail from Co. Leitrim and Co. Limerick; and
WHEREAS, After his family won the very first Irish Family of the
Year Essay Contest, Brendan Moloney joined the Bay Ridge St. Patrick's
Day Committee in 2014; since that time, he has also become a member of
the AOH Division 12, the Knights of Columbus Council 1251, the St.
Patrick's Society of Brooklyn, and the NYPD Emerald Society; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal for the Bay Ridge St.
Patrick's Day Parade, Brendan Moloney embodies the spirit and the
cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Brendan Moloney upon the occasion of his designation as Deputy
Marshal of the 2018 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Brendan Moloney.
