HONORING Cinemapolis upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the 2017 Non-Profit of
the Year Award by the Tompkins County Chamber of
Commerce on January 26, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention
to organizations that devote their time and energies to the cultural
enrichment of the Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Cinemapolis upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the
2017 Non-Profit of the Year Award by the Tompkins County Chamber of
Commerce, to be celebrated at its Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony on
Thursday, January 26, 2017, in the Emerson Suites at Ithaca College,
Ithaca, New York; and

WHEREAS, Cinemapolis is receiving this prestigious award for its
commitment to the arts and theatre in Tompkins County, investment in
downtown Ithaca, and support of the non-profit economy; the residents of
the region thoroughly enjoy the richness and diversity of international
and independent film fare that this vital organization provides; and

WHEREAS, The 7th Art Corporation, a non-profit media arts
organization, encourages central New York residents to explore the power
of film to entertain, educate, and to celebrate the human experience;
this vital organization is dedicated to providing a sophisticated
community with the best in new international and independent cinema; and

WHEREAS, Since its formation in 2000, The 7th Art Corporation has
owned and operated Ithaca's downtown movie theaters, Cinemapolis and
Fall Creek Pictures; today, the new Cinemapolis houses five screens
under its roof; and

WHEREAS, Located in downtown Ithaca, Cinemapolis is a community
cultural institution where the art of film is used to enrich people's
lives, grapple with and illuminate contemporary issues, and, of course,
to entertain; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Executive Director Brett
Bossard, Cinemapolis is currently celebrating its 30th year in Ithaca;
not just a theater that shows independent and art films, Cinemapolis,
has become a community hub, providing opportunities for many non-profit
organizations to show films relevant to their mission, hold discussions,
and raise funds; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes the importance of the
performing arts, which act to inspire, enlighten, and unify people from
all cultural backgrounds through the transcendent power of human
expression; and

WHEREAS, It is most fitting that we take time to celebrate the arts
of our Nation, and to express our appreciation to everyone who

patronizes the arts; and as we celebrate the arts, we celebrate and give
thanks to our American freedom, the only atmosphere in which artists can
truly create and in which art is truly the expression of the soul; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Cinemapolis upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of
the 2017 Non-Profit of the Year Award by the Tompkins County Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Brett Bossard, Executive Director, Cinemapolis.
