COMMEMORATING the 25th Anniversary of the Young
Scholars Liberty Partnerships Program
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations which are committed to enhancing the
quality of education in the State of New York, and which offer excellent
educational programs in the most efficient manner; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Young Scholars Liberty
Partnerships Program, to be celebrated with a dinner on Tuesday, March
27, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1993 with Utica College and the Utica City
School District, the Young Scholars Liberty Partnerships Program (YSLPP)
is a multi-year collaborative project designed by education
professionals to motivate diverse and talented students to stay in
school, earn a New York State Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation,
and pursue post-secondary education; and
WHEREAS, Young Scholars students participate in a comprehensive
program providing academic, social and cultural enrichment; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the Young Scholars Liberty Partnerships Program
serves more than 350 students from grades seven through 12, selected for
possessing the potential for success, but who may not achieve their full
potential due to social and economic risk factors; and
WHEREAS, To increase effectiveness and provide ongoing support,
parents and guardians are encouraged to take part in program activities
and are afforded the opportunity to pursue their own personal
development through Utica College undergraduate courses and specially
planned workshops; and
WHEREAS, Through educational and social skills development, the
Young Scholars Liberty Partnerships Program enriches the community by
motivating students to achieve college and career readiness for
life-long success; and
WHEREAS, With an average 94% graduation rate, the Class of 2017 was
the third in program history to have a 100% graduation rate; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 25-year history, the Young Scholars
Liberty Partnerships Program has demonstrated continuous service to the
residents and communities which it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Young Scholars Liberty Partnerships
Program is in direct correlation to the efforts of its staff and
volunteers, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by
an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising
standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization
and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Young Scholars
Liberty Partnerships Program; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Young Scholars Liberty
Partnerships Program; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Young Scholars Liberty Partnerships Program.
