COMMENDING Betsy Liegey upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by Residents for
a More Beautiful Port Washington on March 16, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Betsy Liegey upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington to be
celebrated at its 50th Anniversary Gala on Friday, March 16, 2018, at
Leonard's Palozzo in Great Neck, New York; and
WHEREAS, For the last five decades, Residents for a More Beautiful
Port Washington has strived to improve the quality of life in its
community, educate its residents about the environment and its impact on
health, and develop policy and planning initiatives; and
WHEREAS, Betsy Liegey has enjoyed a 25-year career in advertising
working at various agencies in California, Minneapolis, and New York;
she has created award winning campaigns for such brands as BMW, The New
York Times, Macy's, Hilton and P&G; and
WHEREAS, Recently, Betsy Liegey and her partner established THE GO
LAB, a firm which propels brands forward through the art and science of
human understanding by helping companies connect as deeply as possible
with their most important asset, their customers; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Port Washington, New York, since 2003, Betsy
Liegey is an important and active part of her community as a vital
member of Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington; she assists
with the environmental education programs, and was instrumental in
creating the Green Team, which acknowledges students for their deeds,
and in turn, motivating others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, As the Chair of the Beautification Committee, Betsy Liegey
led the Give a Litter Bit campaign to encourage all residents and
business owners to keep Port Washington's streets clean and free of
debris and garbage; and
WHEREAS, Betsy Liegey also serves as co-Chair of the Town Mural
Project which diligently works to transform blank walls into
eye-catching art along Main Street; and
WHEREAS, When she is not working or helping someone, Betsy Liegey
loves to spend time outside, whether it is tending to her garden, or
kayaking on the water with her family; she is also learning to paint and
play paddle tennis; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, John, and their
two sons, Jack and Will, all of whom have shown her love and support and
rejoice in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Betsy Liegey upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington on March
16, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Betsy Liegey.
