COMMENDING Zewditu Bekele-Arcuri, MD upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition
by the 2016 Sullivan County Democrat honoring
Professional Women and Women in Business
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Zewditu Bekele-Arcuri has given not only of her time
and energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Dr.
Zewditu Bekele-Arcuri upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the 2016 Sullivan County Democrat honoring Professional
Women and Women in Business; and
WHEREAS, Since the young age of nine, Dr. Zewditu Bekele-Arcuri knew
she was going to become a brilliant Neurologist; and
WHEREAS, Zewditu Bekele-Arcuri earned her Bachelor of Science degree
in Biology from SUNY Stony Brook in 1992; she then obtained her Medical
Doctor from UMDNJ - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway,
New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, From 2002-2007, Dr. Zewditu Bekele-Arcuri was a resident at
the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center; during her last year, she
was a Neurophysiology Fellow with combined EEG/EMG Training; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Zewditu Bekele-Arcuri was a Neurology Resident from
2003-2006, and served as the Chief Neurology Resident from 2005-2006; in
2003, she successfully completed her Internal Medicine Internship; and
WHEREAS, Well-respected and admired for her steadfast commitment and
renowned skill, Dr. Zewditu Bekele-Arcuri held the position of
Chairwoman of the ORMC Department of Neuroscience in 2013 and 2014; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, Dr. Zewditu Bekele-Arcuri became a vital member of
the American Academy of Neurology and began to work at Crystal Run
Healthcare, where she is affiliated with ORMC, CRMC and St. Luke's
Cornwall Hospital; and
WHEREAS, When she is not working, Dr. Zewditu Bekele-Arcuri enjoys
spending time with her family and running in local 5K races; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband of 25 years, Tom,
and her two children, Behailu and Abigiya, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of her life and rejoice in her accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Dr. Zewditu Bekele-Arcuri has
displayed throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Zewditu Bekele-Arcuri upon the occasion of her designation
for special recognition by the 2016 Sullivan County Democrat honoring
Professional Women and Women in Business; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Zewditu Bekele-Arcuri.
