HONORING President Diana Grauer upon the occasion
of her designation for special recognition by the
Arturo Toscanini Lodge No. 2107 on April 8, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
President Diana Grauer upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Arturo Toscanini Lodge No. 2107 at its 58th
Anniversary Celebration to be held at the North Ritz Club in Syosset,
New York, on Sunday, April 8, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Domenica "Diana" was born to the late Vito, who emigrated
from Bari, Italy, and was a bricklayer and Maria (Volpe) Biasi, who was
born in Brooklyn, and was a seamstress; and
WHEREAS, Diana graduated from Babylon High School; upon graduation,
she became a private secretary to the owners of Norton and Siegel Real
Estate and Insurance Company; and
WHEREAS, In November of 1965, she married the late Thomas Grauer,
and settled in Dix Hills, New York; together, they had three children;
while raising her family, Diana began her studies at Lewis A. Wilson
School of Nursing, and continued at C.W. Post College where she received
her Bachelor's degree in Nursing, and obtained her New York State
License, which she still holds today; and
WHEREAS, Diana Grauer dedicated 35 years of nursing specializing in
Staffing and as a Private Duty Nurse in many local hospitals; and
WHEREAS, While her children were still young, Diana Grauer became a
single parent; she went back to school at Berkowits School of
Electrolysis and received her New York State License in Electrolysis;
this is when she started her own private business for Electrolysis, and
still operates it today; and
WHEREAS, Diana Grauer became involved in the Deer Park Professional
Women's Club; in 1987, she was honored as its Woman of the Year for her
involvement and dedication; she is also a member of the Knights of
Columbus Columbettes and the Saints Cyril and Methodius Senior Club; and
WHEREAS, Proud of her heritage, Diana Grauer joined the Constantino
Brumidi Ladies Auxiliary in 1991; after serving in each position on the
Executive Board, she became Auxiliary President, serving for a
three-year term from 2009-2011; and
WHEREAS, In 2011, Diana Grauer joined the Andrea Doria Lodge No.
2201 and became the Recording Secretary in 2012; in addition, she became
its liaison for the Long Island Columbus Day Parade, and the liaison for
the Alzheimer Committee, the Italian Cultural Festival Committee (until
last year), and the District I Chair Queen's Pageant; and
WHEREAS, Diana Grauer joined and has actively been working on the
State Golf, Cooley's, and $100 Raffle Committees; in August of 2013, she
transferred to the Arturo Toscanini Lodge No. 2107 and became its Vice
President in 2014; in 2016, she assumed the position of President and is
now serving her second term as its 24th president; and
WHEREAS, In addition to those state committees, Diana Grauer also
accepted being a Lodge Deputy to the Giuseppe Nigro Lodge No. 2234,
(2015-2016); and the New York State Chairperson of the Italian Cultural
Committee for the Regional Italian Attire project; and
WHEREAS, At the 2017 convention, Diana Grauer was appointed as the
New York State Family of the Year Chairperson; and
WHEREAS, Although she is very involved in the Order, Diana Grauer
always makes time to enjoy her children, Maureen, Michael, and Kathleen
(Janine); and her six grandchildren, Brooke, Connor, Jack, twins
Isabelle and Ethan, and Olivia, who have all shown her love and support
and rejoice in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Diana Grauer has been a very productive lodge leader and
visible representative; she truly exemplifies a role model for all
American ladies of Italian Heritage; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor President Diana Grauer upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the Arturo Toscanini Lodge No. 2107 on April 8,
2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Diana Grauer.
