CONGRATULATING Heather Canfield upon the occasion
of her induction into the SUNY Orange Colt Athletic
Hall of Fame on November 4, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Heather Canfield upon the occasion of her induction into
the SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame; this momentous occasion was
celebrated on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Kuhl's Highland House,
Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, Heather Canfield is a 1999 graduate of SUNY Orange, where
she distinguished herself by her many notable achievements as a member
of the softball team; and
WHEREAS, Heather Canfield was a standout pitcher for the Colts'
softball team; during her freshman year, she was selected to both the
Mid-Hudson Conference and Region XV All-Star Teams, and was named a
second team All-American; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional athlete improved her statistics in her
sophomore year; she posted a 16-1 record as a pitcher with a 1.38 earned
run average over 97 innings, including a perfect game against Nassau;
she also struck out 122 batters, and earned a .455 batting average with
18 RBIs; and
WHEREAS, Under Heather Canfield's leadership, the Colts compiled an
outstanding record of 34-7 and captured the Region XV Championship; and
WHEREAS, In 1999, Heather Canfield was named the Region XV Player of
the Year and a first team All-American while leading her team to a
third-place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament; and
WHEREAS, Heather Canfield went on to earn her bachelor's degree from
Mount St. Mary College and her master's degree from Long Island
University; for the last 16 years, she has held the position of
Assistant Interscholastic Athletic Director for Orange-Ulster BOCES; in
this capacity, she collaborates with 46 school districts within Section
IX; and
WHEREAS, Athletes such as Heather Canfield provide a tremendous
service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Heather Canfield
for her extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to
her skill, dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Heather Canfield upon the occasion of her induction into
the SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame on November 4, 2017; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Heather Canfield.
