COMMEMORATING the 80th Anniversary of the South
Salem Fire Department
WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
significant milestones in the distinguished histories of its esteemed
entities; and
WHEREAS, The South Salem Fire Department will celebrate its 80th
Anniversary on April 7, 2018; and
WHEREAS, The South Salem Fire Department was established by an act
of the Board of Supervisors of Westchester County on June 6, 1932; and
WHEREAS, The South Salem Fire Department was officially organized on
March 17, 1938, with 66 charter members; and
WHEREAS, That year, nine acres of land was purchased for the site of
the current fire house; and
WHEREAS, The South Salem Fire Department was headquartered at
Tator's Garage, owned by George Tator, who furnished South Salem with
its first fire truck in 1925; he was also one of the original Fire
Commissioners, serving for 17 years; and
WHEREAS, The South Salem Fire Department has a long and
distinguished history of providing fire protection and prevention
services to the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the South Salem Fire Department; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the South Salem Fire Department.
