HONORING New Haven Seventh Day Adventist Church
upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of
the 2018 Volunteer Group of the Year Award by the
Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation Brooklyn on
April 20, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention
to the dedicated efforts of those organizations and individuals from
across the State of New York who volunteer their time and energies in
service to the community; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
New Haven Seventh Day Adventist Church upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the 2018 Volunteer Group of the Year Award
by the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation Brooklyn to be celebrated
at its Annual Event in the Atrium on Friday, April 20, 2018; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion will also recognize National
Volunteer Week, which was first designated by an Executive Order from
President Richard Nixon in 1974; this week in April serves to encourage
people to engage in their community through volunteer service; and

WHEREAS, Located at 634 Prospect Place, New Haven Seventh Day
Adventist Church opened its doors to the residents of its neighborhood
for the first time in 1980; today, approximately 300 faithful members
attend services and receive prayers and guidance; and

WHEREAS, In 1995, individuals from New Haven Seventh Day Adventist
Church began to volunteer at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation
(CNR) Brooklyn; since then, church members have ministered to the
residents through full services, bible study classes, and spiritual
support; and

WHEREAS, In addition to its work with CNR, New Haven Seventh Day
Adventist Church serves hot meals to the homeless and to the those with
little income every Sunday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; the Church also
donates bags filled with food to the hungry, and collects clothes and
back-to-school supplies for people who are in need; and

WHEREAS, For over 20 years, the faithful congregants of New Haven
Seventh Day Adventist Church have strived to minister to the home bound,
encourage the down trodden, sad and lonely, and fill their hearts with
joy; and

WHEREAS, Service to community and country is the foundation of our
society, and the contributions and future efforts of those in service to
them are a vital part of, and valuable asset to, the fabric of our
communities; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the

recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor New Haven Seventh Day Adventist Church upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the 2018 Volunteer Group of the Year Award
by the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation Brooklyn; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Pastor D. Zabolotney and Sister Enniss, New Haven Seventh
Day Adventist Church.
