COMMENDING Jay Litzman upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by North Shore
Synagogue on April 28, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
efforts of those individuals within the State of New York who give of
their time and energies in support of spiritual endeavors which aim to
benefit the community at large; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Jay Litzman upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by North Shore Synagogue to be feted at its 65th Anniversary
Celebration on Saturday, April 28, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Born in the Bronx, Jay Litzman and his family moved to
Brooklyn when he was four years-old; he attended Religious School at an
orthodox synagogue six days a week until his Bar Mitzvah; and

WHEREAS, An exceptional athlete, Jay Litzman went to a summer day
camp run by Orthodox Rabbis, where he played sports, swam, made arts and
crafts, went on trips, and sang Hebrew songs; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Jay Litzman served as a
teacher in upstate New York, where he met his soul mate, Marianne; the
couple moved back to New York City and Jay began practicing law; and

WHEREAS, Jay Litzman and his wife had a son, and relocated to
Syosset, New York; the family joined North Shore Synagogue, and Jay
attended Torah Study on Saturday mornings; he then decided to learn more
about the Jewish religion, and subsequently, took several classes, which
helped him define who he was and what his faith meant to him; and

WHEREAS, Jay Litzman became more involved with North Shore
Synagogue, eventually serving as co-Chair of both the Saturday morning
Torah Study and Service in the Round committee; he also helped develop
Synagogue 2000, a URJ program which would make services and the
community more spiritual; he soon became a vital member of the program's
Board of Trustees, and served on several other committees; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Jay Litzman volunteered with
Town of Oyster Bay Farm, where he was instrumental in establishing a
gardening program which would help feed people who were hungry; since
its inception, the Farm has grown and donated at least three tons of
fresh organic vegetables to a local food pantry; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Marianne, and their
children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, Throughout its rich historical past and up to the present
day, the North Shore Synagogue has been sustained by the beneficent
efforts of countless congregants such as Jay Litzman, who have

generously supported their temple with abundant kindness and good deeds;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Jay Litzman upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by North Shore Synagogue, noting his unremitting commitment,
ceaseless devotion and spiritual resolve; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jay Litzman.
