Senate Resolution No. 4248

HONORING Marjorie S. Becker upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the 2017 Lifetime
Achievement Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of
Commerce on March 23, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Marjorie S. Becker upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of
Commerce, to be celebrated at its Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony on
Friday, March 23, 2018, in Bouck Hall, at SUNY Cobleskill College,
Cobleskill, New York; and
WHEREAS, Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce's annual business
awards recognize individuals who have been successful in providing
quality products and services to clients and customers, and who have
consistently treated their business associates in a fair and respectable
manner; and
WHEREAS, Marjorie Silliman Rose was born to Edmund Scott and
Florence Pindar Rose on August 10, 1922; her innovative father
established the Rose Telephone Company in Hobart, New York; shortly
after Marjorie's birth, the family sold their company, and moved to
Middleburgh, New York, where her father went to work for the 25-year old
Middleburgh Telephone Company (MIDTEL); and
WHEREAS, At the young age of 14, Marjorie "Marge" S. Rose started
working part-time at MIDTEL; during her college years at Keuka College,
she continued to work at the company serving as an operator, truck
driver, telephone operator, and administrator; and
WHEREAS, After graduating, Marjorie S. Rose was employed by the
Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Rochester, New York, and obtained
her insurance license; she then moved back to Middleburgh to establish
her insurance career; and
WHEREAS, In 1946, Marjorie S. Rose married the late Randy Becker;
together, the couple raised four sons, and were the loving grandparents
of five grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Marjorie S. Becker furthered her education by earning her
master's degree in education; for 15 years, she was a teacher at
Duanesburg Central School; she also worked nights and weekends at the
MIDTEL until joining the business full-time in 1973; and
WHEREAS, Under the Becker's luminous leadership, MIDTEL strived to
keep up with the times and technology, in order to offer their customers
the very best service; today, Marjorie S. Becker still holds the title
of CEO and works more than 40 hours per week; she enjoys teaching her
three grandsons, Jim, Jason and Keith, the ins and outs of the family
business as they proudly carry on the family tradition as the 5th
generation in the telecom industry; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her work with MIDTEL, Marjorie S. Becker is
a devoted member of her community; she has graciously supported numerous
worthy causes and organizations in Schoharie County; and
WHEREAS, Marjorie S. Becker is truly an asset to the Village of
Middleburgh; a humble woman, she is always ready to lend a helping hand
and greets every one with a warm smile and a kind word; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their profession and community,
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Marge Becker upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Marge Becker.
