Senate Resolution No. 4262

HONORING Hoober Feeds upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the 2017 New Business of
the Year Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of
Commerce on March 23, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly recognize those businesses within the State of New York
which have positively impacted their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Hoober Feeds upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the
2017 New Business of the Year Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of
Commerce, to be celebrated at its Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony on
Friday, March 23, 2018, in Bouck Hall, at SUNY Cobleskill College,
Cobleskill, New York; and
WHEREAS, Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce's annual business
awards recognize businesses which have been successful in providing
quality products and services to clients and customers, and who have
consistently treated their business associates in a fair and respectable
manner; and
WHEREAS, For 81 years, Hoober Feeds has strived to provide its
customers high quality feeds and services; the company offers the local
farming community cutting edge feed formulations which are based on
reliable, research-proven information; and
WHEREAS, In 1937, John J. Hoober purchased a tract of land along the
railroad in Gordonville, Pennsylvania, and established John J. Hoober,
Inc.; he ran the business for many years as a sole proprietor until the
late 1970s, when he sold the mill to Dave Martin, a long-time employee;
and
WHEREAS, Dave Martin took on several partners, including his son,
Jeff, who then became sole owner in the early 1990s, and subsequently,
changed the name to Hoober Feeds; in 2002, Jeff sold the mill to John
and Mark Wagner of White Oak Mills, New York, who then sold the mill to
Brad Wagner, Ron Moore, and Tom Nauman in April 2010, in the fall of
2014, Ron Moore officially retired from the business; and
WHEREAS, Meanwhile, in Central Bridge, New York, the agriculture
industry was struggling and Beacon Mills closed; in 2016, Hoober Feeds
bought the mill and resumed manufacturing custom feed for the Central
Bridge farming community; and
WHEREAS, Hoober Feeds has created many jobs for Schoharie County
residents and new services for local farmers; in addition, the mill
contributes to the economy by buying most of its corn used in its feed
from local farmers; and
WHEREAS, Today, Hoober Feeds continues to carry on the tradition of
manufacturing high quality feeds with the advancement of modern feed
technology and science; the company offers a variety of different
products and services to meet the needs of its customers; and
WHEREAS, The success of Hoober Feeds is in direct correlation to the
efforts of its staff, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the business and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Hoober Feeds upon the occasion of its designation as the 2017
New Business of the Year by the Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Hoober Feeds.
