HONORING Susan Loden upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2017 Businessperson
of the Year Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of
Commerce on March 23, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Susan Loden upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2017 Businessperson of the Year Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of
Commerce, to be celebrated at its Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony on
Friday, March 23, 2018, in Bouck Hall, at SUNY Cobleskill, Cobleskill,
New York; and

WHEREAS, Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce's annual business
awards recognize individuals who have been successful in providing
quality products and services to clients and customers, and who have
consistently treated their business associates in a fair and respectable
manner; and

WHEREAS, Since the 1940s, the Apple Barrel has been serving the
residents of beautiful Schoharie County; what started out as an outlet
for local apples, has turned into a destination for unique gifts,
seasonal plants, fresh baked goods, holiday decorations, and fine dining
at its award-winning cafe; and

WHEREAS, After selling The Country Store in Gallupville, New York,
in 1983, Susan Loden and her husband, Robert, purchased the Apple
Barrel; Robert managed the store for the first 11 years until Susan took
over in 1995; and

WHEREAS, In this capacity, Susan Loden has expanded the business,
adding new merchandise and a popular cafe in 2009; today, Susan's son,
Josh, and daughter, Jessica help her manage the thriving country store;
and

WHEREAS, In addition to her work with the Apple Barrel, Susan Loden
served as both the Town of Wright tax collector from 1986-1997, and
supervisor from 1998-2009; she is also a vital member of the boards of
directors for the Gallupville House Association, and the Schoharie
County Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, When she is not working, Susan Loden enjoys spending time
with her family, especially her new grandson; she also loves to swim,
play pickleball, and travel all over the world; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Robert, their
four children, Jessica, Larissa, Travis and Josh, and one grandson,

Benjamin, all of whom have shown her love and support and rejoice in her
many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their profession and community,
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Susan Loden upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2017 Businessperson of the Year Award by the Schoharie County
Chamber of Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Susan Loden.
