COMMENDING Susan C. Scrimshaw, Ph.D. upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition
by the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on April 27,
2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor and pay
tribute to individuals whose commitment and creative talents contribute
to the cultural enrichment, education and entertainment of their
community and the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Susan C. Scrimshaw, Ph.D. upon the occasion of her designation
for special recognition by the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, to be
celebrated at its 37th Annual Gala on Thursday, April 27, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Susan C. Scrimshaw is being recognized for her devotion to
her profession and sincere dedication and substantial role as a
community leader; she has continuously cast a positive impact on her
community and has displayed an unbridled enthusiasm in all her
professional and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Along with recognizing Susan C. Scrimshaw, this auspicious
occasion will feature a special performance by jazz legends The Branford
Marsalis Quartet and Kurt Elling; and

WHEREAS, Since 2008, Susan C. Scrimshaw has held the esteemed title
of President of The Sage Colleges; in this capacity, she has been
responsible for leading the Colleges through an impressive resurgence by
growing enrollment, expanding academic programs, renewing fiscal health
and increasing visibility and diversity; and

WHEREAS, Susan C. Scrimshaw was also instrumental in organizing the
successful Centennial Campaign which has increased Sage's endowment with
gifts which support academic scholarship and programs and has allowed
the Colleges to make major improvements to its campus facilities; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her academic accomplishments, Susan C.
Scrimshaw has been a great friend to the City of Troy and to the Troy
Saving Bank Music Hall through her generous support of its programming
and initiatives; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1979, the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall
Corporation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enriching the
cultural life of the Capital Region by presenting performances which
showcase the world class acoustics of the beautiful Troy Savings Bank
Music Hall which was built in 1875; and

WHEREAS, The arts are the building blocks of civilization, and are
central to human expression; they enlighten us and inspire the
imagination; individuals which further such worthy purposes richly merit
the recognition and appreciation of this Legislative Body and the people
of the Capital Region and the State of New York; and


WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Susan C. Scrimshaw, Ph.D. upon the occasion of her designation
for special recognition by the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on April 27,
2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Susan C. Scrimshaw, Ph.D.
