Senate Resolution No. 4363

COMMENDING Edna Wells Handy, Esq. upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition
by East Flatbush Village, Inc. on April 19, 2018

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and

WHEREAS, Edna Wells Handy, Esq. has given not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Edna Wells
Handy, Esq. upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition
by East Flatbush Village, Inc. to be celebrated at its Ten Year
Anniversary Event on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at the Tropical Paradise
Ballroom in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, In addition to being recognized for her steadfast and
unremitting commitment to her community, Edna Wells Handy will serve as
the Keynote Speaker for this evening's festivities; and

WHEREAS, Established in 2008, East Flatbush Village, Inc. diligently
works to uplift its Neighbors with Neighbors; this vital not-for-profit
organization provides programs for young people and provides resources
to the entire family which in turn will repair the community; and

WHEREAS, Edna Wells Handy serves as Acting Chief Compliance Officer
for the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) which provides housing
for low- and moderate-income residents throughout the five boroughs of
New York City; and

WHEREAS, Edna Wells Handy has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Edna Wells Handy has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Edna Wells Handy has
displayed throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Edna Wells Handy, Esq. upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by East Flatbush Village, Inc. on April 19, 2018;
and be it further


RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Edna Wells Handy, Esq.
