COMMEMORATING the 60th Anniversary of the Kiwanis
Club of Woodridge, New York on September 15, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those fraternal organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Kiwanis Club of Woodridge, New
York, which was celebrated at its Installation Dinner on Thursday,
September 15, 2016, at Bernie's Holiday Restaurant in Rock Hill; and

WHEREAS, Two of the original members, Alvin Adler and Verben
Konviser were recognized at the dinner for their 60 years of continuous
service to the community; and

WHEREAS, Six decades ago, a group of like-minded businessmen from
the Woodridge area wanted to make their community an even better place
for the youth and their families; and

WHEREAS, Chartered in 1956, the Kiwanis Club of Woodridge is a
community service organization, part of an international organization
composed of business and professional individuals who respond to the
unique needs of its community; and

WHEREAS, The Club's weekly meetings provide fellowship and
networking with other members of the community, an opportunity to learn
valuable information from programs delivered by guest speakers, and the
means to both help improve the Town of Fallsburg and to assist those
less-fortunate; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Kiwanis Club of Woodridge has
strived to improve the quality of life in its beloved community; they
have donated clothing and household supplies to Safe Passage to be used
to create a new beginning for women and children from abusive
relationships; made food and money donations to the Fallsburg area food
pantries; and has been a sponsor of the Key Club, Builders Club and a
K-Kids program; and

WHEREAS, True to its mission of serving the children of the world,
the members of the Kiwanis Club of Woodridge are dedicated to the
students in their community; in the past 60 years, they have
accomplished funding scholarships for the local high school students
through raffle tickets; building the original Little League field at
Krieger Park; raising money for a van for disabled children, donating
money to CASA for children's court and help for abused children,
establishing the Bring Up Grades (BUG) program which encourages the
Fallsburg Elementary School students to do better in school; supplying
outerwear to the school for students without proper winter attire; and
donate books to Head Start and Fallsburg Elementary; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to the betterment of its community, the Kiwanis
Club of Woodridge has helped many worthy causes through their
fundraisers such as pancake breakfasts, raffles, and Mother's Day Plant
Sales; and

WHEREAS, Today, under the luminous leadership of President Deborah
Jacobsen, the Kiwanis Club of Woodridge has expanded to 26 members
including some who reside in not only the Town of Fallsburg but also
other neighboring communities; and

WHEREAS, Organizations of singular distinction such as the Kiwanis
Club of Woodridge provide a model for enhancing the quality of life in
the community and, as such, merit the grateful praise of the community
of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Kiwanis Club of Woodridge on
September 15, 2016; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Deborah Jacobsen, President, Kiwanis Club of Woodridge.
