CONGRATULATING Sarah Schaffner upon the occasion
of receiving the Girl Scout Silver Award, Cadette
Scouting's highest award and Girl Scouting's second
highest achievement
WHEREAS, Sarah Schaffner of Troop 40170, Watkins Glen, New York, was
honored with the Girl Scout Silver Award, Cadette Scouting's highest
award and Girl Scouting's second highest achievement; and
WHEREAS, When earning a Silver Award, it involves completion of a
Girl Scout journey and a minimum of 50 hours of community service; and
WHEREAS, The name of Sarah Schaffner's project was Comfort Covers
which benefitted UPMC Susquehanna; she made "chemo bags" after being
given a list of what would be most useful after a chat with the cancer
care nurses; and
WHEREAS, Sarah Schaffner filled the bags, made pillows, hats,
decorated the bags, and added little cards and notes of encouragement;
she also made handmade blankets which were all knitted, crocheted or
sewn, and are fully washable; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has cultivated in our Nation's young people
the goals of building solid values of sisterhood and the importance of
working with others, stimulating both mind and body, instilling pride,
and encouraging community service and success; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has expanded the horizons of the countless
hundreds of thousands who have participated in Scouting programs which
have made Scouting an American and international institution; and
WHEREAS, The Silver Award is earned over a two-year period; it is
tangible evidence of Sarah Schaffner's high character and commitment,
and are harbingers of her future service to her community, New York
State and our Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Sarah Schaffner, recognizing her achievements in earning
the Girl Scout Silver Award, and wishing her much success, health and
happiness; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sarah Schaffner.
