HONORING Tessa Hughes upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Youth Award by the
Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce on April 26, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Tessa Hughes
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Youth Award by
the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce to be celebrated at its Annual Awards
Dinner on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Normanside Country Club in
Delmar, New York; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1957, the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce
works on a local and regional level to advance economic development and
foster a positive business environment; it offers resources for
residents, business, recreation and relocation in Bethlehem and the
surrounding region; and

WHEREAS, The Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce Youth Award recognizes
young residents who have contributed to the region either through
business or volunteer endeavors; Tessa Hughes is truly deserving of this
award; and

WHEREAS, Tessa Hughes is an active student of the Bethlehem Central
School District where she participates in various groups such as Best
Buddies, Peer Helpers, and Students for Peace and Survival; she
participated in the Freshman Orientation, and through the Student
Senate, she contributed to the Backpack Program; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her high school career, Tessa Hughes was a
valuable member of the soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams, serving as
captain for all three teams; during her junior and senior years, she was
the recipient of the Student Athlete Award for Leadership; she also
served as a volunteer coach; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Tessa Hughes has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend young
individuals of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and
commitment toward constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves and
acting as role models of leadership to be emulated by both peers and
young people; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Tessa Hughes upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Youth Award by the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Tessa Hughes.
