HONORING John P. Lorenzetti upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by St.
Edmund Preparatory High School on April 22, 2018
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, John P. Lorenzetti has given not only of his time and
energies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor John P.
Lorenzetti upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
by St. Edmund Preparatory High School, to be celebrated at its
Anniversary Gala on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Giando on the Water,
Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, A Catholic educator for 48 years, John P. Lorenzetti served
the St. Edmund Preparatory High School community with distinction for
nearly three decades, seven years as a religion and English teacher and
22 as Principal; and
WHEREAS, As a young teacher, John P. Lorenzetti made his mark
through moderating the Student Council, instituting a peer counseling
program and most notably, co-producing large theatrical productions
which became a hallmark of St. Edmund High School during the 1970s; and
WHEREAS, During this time, John P. Lorenzetti espoused the Dominican
tradition of Caritas in his teaching, learning that the welfare of the
individual student was far more important than any subject at hand; and
WHEREAS, After a stint at Nazareth Regional Catholic High School,
John P. Lorenzetti returned to St. Edmund in 1994, to become its 10th
principal, shepherding the school's transition to a co-educational
institution and growing its student body from 200 to over 700 students;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious tenure as principal, John P.
Lorenzetti was instrumental in the introduction of a music education
program and the establishment of its first student-exchange program; he
also oversaw the first investment in educational technology, installing
smart boards and renovating several computer labs; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of John P. Lorenzetti, St. Edmund
Preparatory High School completed the process to become an International
Baccalaureate World School, elevating its academic standards as dictated
by this world renowned program; and
WHEREAS, John P. Lorenzetti was a key figure in establishing the
consortium with local Catholic grammar schools, and he oversaw major
plant renovations including the three science labs, a library and media
center, and the new wing; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Emmaus Retreat Program, the summer
outreach program and the Hunger Awareness Campaign and its subsequent
pilgrimage to Cuba, all occurred under his leadership; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which John P. Lorenzetti has
displayed throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
John P. Lorenzetti, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John P. Lorenzetti upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by St. Edmund Preparatory High School on April 22,
2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John P. Lorenzetti.
