COMMENDING the Norwegian-American 17th of May
Committee of Greater New York, Inc. upon the
occasion of hosting its 66th Annual Norwegian
Constitution Day Parade on May 20, 2018

WHEREAS, Each and every city, town, village and hamlet within its
borders proudly resonates with the rich and noble history of New York
State and this Nation; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
acclaim events which symbolize the historical, social, and cultural
development of this great State and embody the spirit of the principles
upon which this Nation was founded; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Norwegian-American 17th of May Committee of Greater New
York, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 66th Annual Norwegian
Constitution Day Parade to be celebrated on Sunday, May 20, 2018, in Bay
Ridge, Brooklyn, New York, in conjunction with the commemoration of the
204th Anniversary of the signing of Norway's Constitution; and

WHEREAS, This vital committee diligently works to encourage and
develop a deep appreciation of the ideals of independence and freedom
that the 17th of May, Constitution Day of Norway, embodies and to keep
alive the cultural heritage of Norway; and

WHEREAS, This year marks the 66th Anniversary of the Norwegian
Constitution Day Parade, a parade which continues to attract more and
more spectators along its route, and has become one of New York City's
most notable attractions in the month of May; and

WHEREAS, The parade will include musical and marching bands, dancers
and entertainment of all kinds, in a special celebration of culture for
Brooklyn, for New York City, and for the entire State of New York; and

WHEREAS, The parade provides an opportunity for a grand celebration
of Norwegian heritage, which gives people the opportunity to meet old
friends, make new ones, and allows the diverse community to celebrate
with those of Norwegian descent; and

WHEREAS, The treasured values of families united and wholesome
entertainment for all ages reflected in this event help to foster
community spirit and cooperation, as well as to preserve the beliefs,
ideals, and values for which our forefathers declared the independence
of these United States; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Norwegian-American 17th of May Committee of Greater New
York, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 66th Annual Norwegian
Constitution Day Parade on Sunday, May 20, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Norwegian-American 17th of May Committee of Greater
New York, Inc.
