HONORING Codi-Ann Reid upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Youth Leadership
Award by the Community Council for Medgar Evers
College, Inc. on April 21, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Codi-Ann Reid upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Youth Leadership Award by the Community Council for Medgar Evers
College, Inc. to be celebrated at its Annual Spring Scholarship and
Leadership Awards Luncheon on Saturday, April 21, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1972, The Community Council for Medgar Evers
College, Inc. includes residents, organizations, faculty, students and
all elected officials of the Central Brooklyn community who support the
mission of the College, and since 1980, has provided more than 220,000
dollars in scholarships to deserving students through fundraising
events, outside grants and contributions; and

WHEREAS, At the young age of 12, Codi-Ann Reid migrated from Jamaica
to the United States in order to take advantage of the many
opportunities this great country has to offer people from all over the
world; and

WHEREAS, Currently a senior at Medgar Evers College Preparatory
School, Codi-Ann Reid is an exceptional student-athlete, holding the
title of 2017 USATF New York Overall Field Athlete of the Year while
maintaining a solid 96% GPA; and

WHEREAS, After graduating, Codi-Ann Reid plans to major in
biomedical engineering at Harvard University; and

WHEREAS, Codi-Ann Reid is an active and dedicated member of her
community; she volunteers her time and energy working in the emergency
room at New York Methodist-Presbyterian Hospital; and

WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
Codi-Ann Reid represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Codi-Ann Reid upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Youth Leadership Award by the Community Council for Medgar Evers
College, Inc.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Codi-Ann Reid.
