COMMENDING Confident Girl Mentoring Program, Inc.
upon the occasion of its Youth Confidence Day on
October 20, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality of life for young people in the communities across this
great State of New York is enriched by the concerned and dedicated
efforts of those organizations and individuals of distinction whose
singular purpose is the care and welfare of youth; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Confident Girl Mentoring Program, Inc. upon the occasion of its
Youth Confidence Day on October 20, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Founded and led by Tiffany R. Lewis, Confident Girl
Mentoring Program, Inc. is a youth empowerment initiative which builds
confidence in youth, teens, and young adults ages 7-19 in New York
State; and
WHEREAS, Tiffany R. Lewis holds a dual degree in legal and religious
studies, and has spent over 12 years working in the Buffalo community on
various development programs; and
WHEREAS, The owner of Skin Deep Beauty Spa, Tiffany R. Lewis is the
first African American woman in Western New York to earn a certification
in Clinical Oncology Esthetics; currently, she is training to earn a
certificate in Dealing with Multicultural Skin; and
WHEREAS, According to the Census Bureau, one out of every three
young people do not have a trusted adult to turn to for advice; Tiffany
R. Lewis established the Confident Girl Mentoring Program to serve as
an advocate for today's young people, promote cultural diversity, and
encourage future leaders to embrace all aspects of their social
identities; and
WHEREAS, The Confident Girl Mentoring Program focuses on workshops
and activities which promote self-confidence and self-worth in young
women through peer mentoring, leadership training, behavioral modeling,
etiquette and talent showcases; and
WHEREAS, The Confident Girl Mentoring Program also provides youth
with career mentors and career exploration programs to enable them to
learn about their skills and passions and to define personal career
goals; works to reduce negative behaviors such as violence and crime,
alcohol and substance abuse, disengagement from school and
health-compromising behaviors; features successes of other women;
conduct outreach and engage in inner-beauty workshops; increase the
health and wellness of adolescents or transition-aged youth; and guide
the youth on how to appreciate and embrace their unique beauty, inside
and out; and
WHEREAS, This valuable program launched Youth Confidence Day on
October 20, 2017; on this special day, the students at West Hertel
Academy were treated to a special program about building both
self-confidence and self-worth; and
WHEREAS, The objective of Youth Confidence Day is to encourage
today's youth, who must cope with far more personal and social pressures
than any other previous generation, by planting a seed of confidence and
hope that may not have been planted previously; it is also a time for
young people to increase confidence and awareness of their true self;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Confident Girl Mentoring Program, Inc. upon the occasion of its
Youth Confidence Day on October 20, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Tiffany R. Lewis, CEO, Confident Girl Mentoring Program,
Inc.
