CONGRATULATING three members of Girl Scout Troop
30113 upon the occasion of receiving the Girl Scout
Silver Award, Cadette Scouting's highest award and
Girl Scouting's second highest achievement
WHEREAS, Three members of Girl Scout Troop 30113 were honored with
the Girl Scout Silver Award, Cadette Scouting's highest award and Girl
Scouting's second highest achievement; and
WHEREAS, Cassidy Kelly, Gianna Gioia and Kara Gioia are members of
the Girl Scout Troop 30113; and
WHEREAS, When earning a Silver Award, it involves completion of a
Girl Scout journey and a minimum of 50 hours of community service; the
girls were on a mission to help homeless teens, and Compass House was
the only shelter in Erie County that helps youths between the ages of 12
and 17 find a temporary place to stay; and
WHEREAS, Compass House offers crisis services and counseling to
runaways, homeless and at-risk youths; this vital facility provides
services that support dignity, respect and self-reliance, with 95
percent of the youths successfully placed back into their home
environment or foster care; and
WHEREAS, Cassidy Kelly, Gianna Gioia and Kara Gioia were given a
wish list from Compass House; they talked to adults, businesses,
churches, neighbors and parishioners to discuss their project; and
WHEREAS, They also made posters and flyers, and set up donation
containers throughout the community and, during meetings and personal
time, they made items for the resource center, which provides
nonresidential support; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has cultivated in our Nation's young people
the goals of building solid values of sisterhood and the importance of
working with others, stimulating both mind and body, instilling pride,
and encouraging community service and success; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has expanded the horizons of the countless
hundreds of thousands who have participated in Scouting programs which
have made Scouting an American and international institution; and
WHEREAS, The Silver Award is earned over a two-year period; it is
tangible evidence of Cassidy Kelly, Gianna Gioia and Kara Gioia 's high
character and commitment, and are harbingers of their future service to
their community, New York State and our Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Cassidy Kelly, Gianna Gioia and Kara Gioia, recognizing
their achievements in earning the Girl Scout Silver Award, and wishing
them much success, health and happiness; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Cassidy Kelly, Gianna Gioia and Kara Gioia.
