RECOGNIZING April 9-13, 2018, as Cancer Registrar
Appreciation Week

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in recognizing its
dedicated professionals; and

WHEREAS, Cancer Registrars across the country will be recognized for
their hard work and dedication during the week of April 9-13, 2018; this
year's theme is "Hidden Jewels of Cancer Care"; and

WHEREAS, Cancer Registrars report cancer cases to the State central
registries, and are responsible for analyzing the staging of this
disease and reporting the first course of treatment; and

WHEREAS, They continue their efforts with a life-long follow-up with
each patient, documenting their treatment and survival; and

WHEREAS, This information is used by the National Cancer Institute,
the American Cancer Society, and researchers in the development of new
treatments and finding the "clusters" which may be trouble spots within
a state; and

WHEREAS, There are 240 hospitals in New York State reporting over
100,000 cases of cancer each year; and

WHEREAS, There are currently 422 certified Cancer Registrars in New
York State; they have all received national certification, which must be
maintained with continuing education; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, expertise, and dedication of these
remarkable professionals are tremendous assets in the fight against
cancer; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize April 9-13, 2018, as Cancer Registrar Appreciation Week; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the New York State Cancer Registrars Association.
