HONORING Evelyn DeJesus upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Trailblazer Award by
the United Federation of Teachers African Heritage
Committee on February 3, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those illustrious individuals of distinguished purpose whose
lives have been committed to the pursuit of excellence in the education
of the youth of this noble Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
honor Evelyn DeJesus upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Trailblazer Award by the United Federation of Teachers African
Heritage Committee, to be celebrated at its 14th Annual Awards Dinner
Dance on Friday, February 3, 2017, at Antun's in Queens Village, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Evelyn DeJesus is receiving this prestigious award for her
steadfast and unremitting commitment to developing character and
academic excellence in the young people of New York State; and

WHEREAS, As Vice President of this vital organization, she has been
a tireless advocate for quality education and for high professional
standards; her remarkable skills and endeavors have greatly enhanced the
quality of education in this great State; and

WHEREAS, Evelyn DeJesus has continually demonstrated an impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered in New
York City Schools for the benefit of its faculty and students, as well
as for the entire community; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
Evelyn DeJesus upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Trailblazer Award by the United Federation of Teachers African Heritage
Committee; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Evelyn DeJesus.
