CONGRATULATING Alexa Tamburlin upon the occasion
of capturing the Gold Medal in the Duet category at
the World Baton Twirling Championship on April 1,
2018

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to extend its full
recognition and grateful tribute to the athletes of New York State who
have dedicated their purposeful lives to athletic achievement and
proudly represented their great State and Nation in international sports
competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to join the Western
New York community in honoring Alexa Tamburlin, a young woman of great
skill, personal courage and unparalleled dedication, whose character and
athletic achievements are world-renowned and personify the highest
ideals of the American spirit and international competition; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Alexa Tamburlin upon the occasion of capturing the Gold
Medal in the Duet category at the World Baton Twirling Championship on
Sunday, April 1, 2018, in Lillehammer, Norway; and

WHEREAS, Alexa Tamburlin became a member of Team USA after she and
her partner won first place at Nationals held at Notre Dame University;
and

WHEREAS, Alexa Tamburlin has been a competitive baton twirler since
the young age of three; baton twirling gives the athlete an opportunity
to express herself, feel a sense of self-worth and personal
accomplishment, and to learn about both setting and attaining personal
goals; and

WHEREAS, Baton twirling is not only a sport, it is also an art
requiring style and beauty, and a sport because it combines intense
coordination to keep the baton in motion while the body moves in a
graceful manner, all the while incorporating dance moves, gymnastic
maneuvers, and music interpretation demanding a high level of
concentration and physical exertion; and

WHEREAS, Baton twirling as a competitive sport encompasses the
physical stamina and agility of gymnastics and dance, the artistic
expression and beauty of figure skating and ballet, and the technical
skill of all these sports combined; and

WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by Alexa Tamburlin is due in
great part to the efforts of Coach Kelli Krull Russell, a skilled and
inspirational tutor, respected for her ability to develop potential into
excellence; and

WHEREAS, A role model for all, Alexa Tamburlin is a talented,
dedicated athlete who has brought honor to her family, her coaches, and

her community of friends who have encouraged her progress and commended
her hard work; and

WHEREAS, A gifted athlete and artist, Alexa Tamburlin's character
and achievements stand as a sterling example and inspiration to all who
would aspire to such extraordinary success; and

WHEREAS, Many will only dream of competing in the Baton Twirling
World Championships; this young gifted athlete from the great State of
New York, through her hard work and tenacious spirit, has made that
vision a reality, and has proudly represented her country in competition
among the world's finest athletes, an honor that gives just cause for
her family, community and State to be exceedingly proud of her
achievements; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Alexa Tamburlin upon the occasion of capturing the Gold
Medal in the Duet category at the World Baton Twirling Championship; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Alexa Tamburlin.
