COMMENDING Geoffrey R. Horlick Ph.D. upon the
occasion of his retirement after 38 years of
distinguished service to St. Francis College in
Brooklyn, New York
WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
the significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those
outstanding educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have
been instrumental in developing character and academic excellence in the
young people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Geoffrey R. Horlick Ph.D. upon the occasion of his retirement
after 38 years of distinguished service to St. Francis College in
Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Dr. Geoffrey R. Horlick have provided a
tremendous service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring
generations of young people in their educational journeys and ensuring
their success in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Geoffrey R. Horlick earned his Bachelor of Science
degree in accounting from Syracuse University, and his Master's in
Business Administration from the University of Michigan; he furthered
his education by obtaining his Ph.D. in accounting from Texas A&M
University, and his CPA Certificate from the University of Maryland; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Geoffrey R. Horlick enjoyed a long and distinguished
career teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Financial and
Managerial Accounting; in 1966, he took his first job as an instructor
for the University of Maryland; after four years, he served as a
lecturer for the University of Delaware from September of 1970 until
June of 1972; and
WHEREAS, He then worked as an instructor for CUNY Queens College for
two years, an assistant professor at Hofstra University for an
additional two years, and an associate professor at St. John's
University for another year; and
WHEREAS, In September of 1980, Dr. Geoffrey R. Horlick began his
tenure as a professor with St. Francis College; for 30 of those years,
he held the title of Chair of the Department; after almost four decades
of service, he will officially retire from his esteemed role as an
educator in 2018; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Dr. Geoffrey R. Horlick designed both the
bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting, and has been a vital
member of numerous committees and councils; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Geoffrey R. Horlick has also served as a business
consultant since 1975, and has written various publications; he belongs
to the American Accounting Association, American Institute of CPAs, the
New York State Society of CPAs, and the Financial Accounting Standards
Board; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Geoffrey R. Horlick's quest for excellence is
well-known; he attributes much of his success to the dedicated ethical
team of educators, supportive friends, caring and involved parents, and
wonderful, enthusiastic students; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Geoffrey R. Horlick has clearly had an enduring impact
on the students of St. Francis College, as well as on the
community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause for
his impressive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
institutions of higher education by providing their skills and talents
to our colleges; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Geoffrey R. Horlick Ph.D. upon the occasion of his retirement
after 38 years of distinguished service to St. Francis College, and to
wish him continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Geoffrey R. Horlick Ph.D.
