HONORING Gardy Brazela upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Man of Distinction
Award by The Brooklyn Club of the National
Association of Negro Business and Professional
Women's Clubs, Inc.

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and

WHEREAS, Gardy Brazela has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gardy
Brazela upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Man of
Distinction Award by The Brooklyn Club of the National Association of
Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc., to be celebrated at
its 51st Annual Founders' Day Observance, "Empowering Communities and
Shaping Lives," on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Gargiulo's Restaurant,
Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, Gardy Brazela began his illustrious career as an Advisor in
the 69th Precinct Community Council in 1997; after being elected as
Corresponding Secretary, he moved up to Vice President until his
promotion to President on January 1, 2015, the esteemed position he
continues to hold today; and

WHEREAS, A native of Haiti, Gardy Brazela is founder of the Friends
United Block Association, an organization which provides programs and
services in the Canarsie Neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, and helps
community members address quality of life concerns; and

WHEREAS, Gardy Brazela attended the Borough of Manhattan Community
College before going on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political
Science and Master's degree in Urban Policy Administration from Brooklyn
College; and

WHEREAS, In addition, he founded the United Youth Center, a truly
vital community resource which provides local youth with training in
computer skills, basic life skills, homework help and piano lessons; and

WHEREAS, Gardy Brazela has been the proud recipient of numerous
awards and accolades for his extensive community work; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Gardy Brazela has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to

Gardy Brazela, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gardy Brazela upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Man of Distinction Award by The Brooklyn Club of the National
Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc.; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Gardy Brazela.
