HONORING Barbara Hildreth upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Third Age
Achievement Award for Volunteerism by the Senior
Services of Albany
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Barbara Hildreth upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Third Age Achievement Award for Volunteerism by the Senior Services
of Albany, to be celebrated at its 22nd Annual Awards Luncheon on
Friday, May 18, 2018, at Wolferts Roost Country Club, Albany, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Each year, this auspicious event recognizes the
contributions that area residents and professionals have made in their
communities during the Third Age of their lives; Barbara Hildreth will
receive this award for her valuable achievements and devoted service to
her community after the age of 60; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Hildreth began as an administrator in the
Schenectady City School District as the Principal at St. Helens School
before moving on to become the Principal of Immaculate Conception
School; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished career in education, Barbara
Hildreth was instrumental in the development of a middle school program
at Catholic Central High School; she then served as Principal at
Waterford-Halfmoon Elementary School for eight years, followed by seven
years as Principal of Harmony Hill School in Cohoes, where she retired
in 2005; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Hildreth was Chair of the Board for the Cohoes
Business Council from 2006 to 2007, and simultaneously opened her yarn
shop, Beauknits, in Cohoes; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her
community, Barbara Hildreth remains an active volunteer at the Cohoes
library, the Cohoes Historical Architectural Review Board and with The
Church of the Holy Trinity; she has also served as Chair of the Board
for the Cohoes Local Development Corporation; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, this extra ordinary woman gives of her time
and energies to the Food Pantry and Cohoes Senior Center; she is also
the Chair of the Board for Cohoes Bridges Out of Poverty; and
WHEREAS, When she is not volunteering, Barbara Hildreth can be found
enjoying some well-deserved relaxation at her summer home in Brant Lake,
New York; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her husband, John, who has
shown her love and support and rejoices in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Barbara Hildreth, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Barbara Hildreth upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Third Age Achievement Award for Volunteerism by the Senior
Services of Albany; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Barbara Hildreth.
