Senate Resolution No. 5046

COMMENDING Jay Quaintance upon the occasion of his
inauguration as the 7th President of SUNY Sullivan
on May 18, 2018

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those leaders in
education whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance
the stature of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Jay Quaintance upon the occasion of his inauguration as the 7th
President of SUNY Sullivan on Friday, May 18, 2018, at Seelig Theatre,
Loch Sheldrake, New York; and

WHEREAS, Jay Quaintance has served as the Interim President of SUNY
Sullivan since July of 2016; and

WHEREAS, After earning his high school equivalency diploma, Jay
Quaintance went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's
degree in Rhetoric from New Mexico State University; and

WHEREAS, Prior to relocating to Sullivan County, Jay Quaintance
served as President of the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Schenectady,
the Town of Niskayuna Planning Board and Zoning Commission, and on the
Schenectady Public Access Television Board; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Heather, and their
two daughters, Hannah (Adam) and Kate, all of whom have shown him love
and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Jay Quaintance upon the occasion of his inauguration as the 7th
President of SUNY Sullivan on May 18, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jay Quaintance.
