COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the
Longhouse Council of Boy Scouts of America

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Longhouse Council of Boy Scouts
of America to be celebrated on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, during the
Boypower dinner at the Onondaga County War Memorial with Guest Speaker,
the legendary boxer George Foreman; and

WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and its members, volunteers
and staff, are dedicated to the development of character and leadership
in the youth of this great State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, The Longhouse Council is one of more than 270 local
councils; the purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on
February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916, is to provide an
educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to
train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to
develop personal fitness; and

WHEREAS, Since coming to these shores by the action of an unknown
British Scout, the Boy Scouts of America has developed a rich history;
and

WHEREAS, The Longhouse Council is led by a dedicated staff of
hundreds of volunteers and a small professional staff, working to
provide all council services; the Longhouse Council holds a charter from
the national office of the Boy Scouts of serve seven districts with
their own histories which give them their own identity; these districts
include Cayuga, Interlakes, Tri-Lakes, Oneida, Onondaga, Ontario, and
Northern Lights; and

WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America have so manifestly contributed to
the preservation of such treasured ideals of compassion, honor,
preparedness and concern for others which are so important to society,
then and now; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Longhouse Council of Boy Scouts
of America to be celebrated on May 2, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Grey Rolland, Scout Executive of the Longhouse Council.
