Senate Resolution No. 5094

HONORING Henry A. Bolus upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the
highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
York State Senate
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Henry A.
Bolus upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty
Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York
State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, A shining example of what a citizen of America should be,
Henry A. Bolus voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army, proudly
serving his country during the Korean Conflict as a paratrooper with the
187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team and the 11th Airborne Division
from February of 1951 to January of 1955; and
WHEREAS, Born on February 19, 1934, Henry A. Bolus attended the New
York City public school system before pursuing his undergraduate degree;
he completed the My Turn program at New York City's Kingsborough
Community College, earning a 3.95 GPA and prompting the National Society
of Leadership and Success, Sigma Alpha Phi, to invite him to join their
fraternity at the Presidential Level; and
WHEREAS, A valuable community advocate, Henry A. Bolus works quietly
in the background, always willing to go the extra mile; he was the proud
recipient of a New York City Council Proclamation for exceptional
services to this great Nation and takes great pride in his association
with local units of the Boy and Girl Scouts of America, as well as the
Brooklyn Canarsie Lions; and
WHEREAS, Henry A. Bolus is past President of the 69th Community
Council, and still derives great joy having served as one of the
organization's most loyal and enthusiastic umpires of their yearly
baseball league; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, he is a member of the District 18 Community
Board and a member of the Board of Directors of Cypress Hills and
Canarsie Cemeteries; and
WHEREAS, In 2005, United States Congressman Ed Towns presented Henry
A. Bolus with a Special Proclamation for his distinguished record of
service to the community; one year later, he was awarded the Outstanding
Community Service Award by the Kings County District Attorney; and
WHEREAS, Henry A. Bolus has been a member of the Canarsie Memorial
Day Parade for several years, as well as an elected delegate to the New
York State Judicial Convention; as a longtime member of the Knights of
Columbus, he was awarded the status of Honorary Life Member; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, this extraordinary man is a devoted and active
parishioner of Canarsie's Shrine Church of St. Jude, where he serves as
a member of the finance committee and as an usher; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 64 years,
Josephine, and their two children, Michael and Sabrina, as well as three
grandchildren, Michael, Hector and Ana, and four great-grandchildren,
who have all shown him love and support and rejoice in his many
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Henry A. Bolus upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Henry A. Bolus.
