HONORING Sheriff Phil C. Povero upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the Exceptional
Service Award by the Victor-Farmington Rotary Club
on May 16, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote
themselves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence
in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their
communities and this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sheriff Phil C. Povero upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Exceptional Service Award by the Victor-Farmington Rotary Club to
be celebrated at its Annual Police Appreciation Dinner, in conjunction
with the observance of National Police Memorial Day, on Wednesday, May
16, 2018, at Finn's Tap Room in Victor, New York; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Sheriff Phil C. Povero will receive the Paul
Harris Fellow Award; and

WHEREAS, Rotary International is dedicated to the development of
fellowship and understanding among business and professional leaders,
the promotion of community-betterment endeavors and of high standards in
business and professional practices, and the advancement of
international understanding, goodwill and peace; and

WHEREAS, Each year the Victor-Farmington Rotary Club proudly
commends individuals who exemplify those principles; Sheriff Phil C.
Povero truly merits such recognition; and

WHEREAS, A 27-year veteran of the Ontario County Sheriff's
Department, Phil C. Povero is the longest serving Sheriff in the history
of Ontario County, and currently, is the longest serving Sheriff in New
York State; after almost three decades of service, he will officially
retire from this position at the end of 2018; and

WHEREAS, In 1972, Phil C. Povero began his distinguished career as a
corrections and communications officer with the Ontario County Sheriff's
Department; the next year, he was assigned to road patrol duties;
Officer Povero assumed the position of Criminal Investigator in 1977;
and

WHEREAS, Investigator Phil C. Povero was elected Sheriff of Ontario
County in 1990; for his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his
community, he was the recipient of the 2018 Sheriff Grover Cleveland
Award, New York State Sheriff's Association's highest award; and


WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Cyndie, who has
shown him love and support and rejoices in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sheriff Phil C. Povero upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Exceptional Service Award by the Victor-Farmington
Rotary Club on May 16, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sheriff Phil C. Povero.
