Senate Resolution No. 5128

COMMENDING East Flatbush Village, Inc. upon the
occasion of hosting Stop the Bleed on May 25, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend East Flatbush Village, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting Stop
the Bleed on Friday, May 25, 2018; and
WHEREAS, East Flatbush Village, Inc. is a not-for-profit
organization committed to providing support and information to indigent
populations; and
WHEREAS, In the event of an accident, no matter how rapid the
arrival of professional emergency responders, bystanders will always be
first on the scene; and
WHEREAS, Research has shown that bystanders, with little or no
medical training, can become heroic lifesavers; and
WHEREAS, Uncontrolled bleeding injuries can result from natural and
manmade disasters and from everyday accidents; providing bystanders with
basic tools and information on the simple steps they can take in an
emergency to stop life threatening bleeding can save countless lives;
and
WHEREAS, Similar to the use of CPR or automatic defibrillators,
improving public awareness about how to stop severe bleeding and
expanding personal and public access to Bleeding Control Kits can be the
difference between life and death for an injured person; and
WHEREAS, Stop the Bleed was launched at a White House event in
October of 2015, to provide bystanders of emergencies with the tools and
knowledge to stop life-threatening bleeding; and
WHEREAS, The goal of this initiative is to ensure that the general
public will have access to the proper training and tools needed to
provide critical life-saving care; and
WHEREAS, East Flatbush Village's class will teach the bystander
about the effects of blood loss, the tools available to stop bleeding
and the ability to gets hands on use of a tourniquet; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished history, East Flatbush Village, Inc.
has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communities
which it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend East Flatbush Village, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting Stop
the Bleed on May 25, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to East Flatbush Village, Inc.
