HONORING Thomas Trombone upon the occasion of his
designation as Deputy Grand Marshal of Brooklyn's
151st Annual Kings County Memorial Day Parade on May
28, 2018

WHEREAS, Each and every city, town, village and hamlet within its
borders resonates with the rich and noble history of New York State and
this nation; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend events which symbolize the historical, social and cultural
development of this great State and embody the spirit of the principles
upon which this nation was founded, and to applaud individuals who have
dedicated their life's work in support and furtherance of those
principles; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Thomas Trombone upon the occasion of his designation as Deputy Grand
Marshal of Brooklyn's 151st Annual Kings County Memorial Day Parade, to
be held on Monday, May 28, 2018; and

WHEREAS, On Memorial Day, observed annually on the last Monday of
the month of May, we honor those Americans who gave their lives in
defense of their country, whether in the Civil War which divided our
nation or in times of war since that time, and in times of peace, in
police actions and minor skirmishes, in peacekeeping roles and in
missions to foreign lands to uphold the cherished principles of liberty
and democracy upon which our grand Republic was founded; and

WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Grand Marshal of Brooklyn's
151st Annual Kings County Memorial Day Parade, Thomas Trombone proudly
served his country as a member of the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, Born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, Thomas Trombone enlisted in
the United States Army in 1948; he served with the 3rd Infantry Division
and the 2nd Armored Division before completing his enlistment with the
1st Armored Division in 1951; and

WHEREAS, After his discharge, Thomas Trombone attended City
University of New York at night and earned his Applied Science degree in
Chemistry; he then embarked on a 38-year career with Colgate-Palmolive
as a chemical engineer; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Trombone has been an active part of his community
for decades; he has served as an usher for St. Ephrem's Roman Catholic
Church for 60 years, and has attained 4th Degree status with the Knights
of Columbus, the world's largest Catholic fraternal organization devoted
to the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to his fellow veterans, Thomas Trombone held the
title of Commander of American Legion Coffey-Wilson Post No. 688 and
serves as the Chaplain for Korean War Veterans Chapter 171; and


WHEREAS, Thomas Trombone is also the Sergeant-at Arms for the 40 & 8
Voiture No. 17 of the American Legion, a member of the United Military
Veterans of Kings County, and Command Sergeant Major for the Veteran
Corps of Artillery; he also served as a delegate to the Bay Ridge
Community Council; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Thomas Trombone graciously donates his time
and energy to serving as a docent for the United States Army Garrison
Fort Hamilton Harbor Defense Museum; in this capacity, he teaches 4th
and 5th graders about the American Revolution and more specifically the
Battle of Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his
community, Thomas Trombone was the recipient of numerous awards and
accolades including the President's Volunteer Service Award for
continuous service from 1998-2016, the Department of the Army Commanders
Award for Public Service, and the United States Freedom Team Salute for
continuous support of the Army Family; and

WHEREAS, He also received the Patriotism Award by the United
Military Veterans of Kings County, as well as the United States
Congress, both the New York State Senate and Assembly, and the New York
City Council; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Trombone enjoyed a long and happy marriage with his
late wife Eleanor; he is the father of a son and daughter, and the
loving grandfather of three granddaughters, one great-grandson and one
great-granddaughter; and

WHEREAS, As we observe and remember our deceased veterans on
Memorial Day, we recall their brave and noble deeds which have served to
maintain our most precious and cherished freedoms and honor those who
continue to work diligently to support and sustain them; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Thomas Trombone upon the occasion of his designation as Deputy
Grand Marshal of Brooklyn's 151st Annual Kings County Memorial Day
Parade; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Thomas Trombone.
