COMMENDING Children of the City upon the occasion
of hosting its 4th Annual David Tyree Charity Bowl
on June 6, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Children of the City upon the occasion of hosting its 4th Annual
David Tyree Charity Bowl on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Lucky Strikes
Bowling in New York, New York; and

WHEREAS, In addition to bowling, guests will have the opportunity to
meet Sterling Shepard and some of his teammates from the New York
Giants, supermodel Chanel Iman, and MC Bruce Beck; and

WHEREAS, Through this year's event, Children of the City is hoping
to make it possible for 250 children to attend its summer and after
school educational intervention programs for children and youth living
below the poverty line; and

WHEREAS, Children of the City is the only grassroots, family
development organization in New York City that utilizes home visits to
connect individual children and families with the programs and resources
to empower them with the skills to overcome poverty; and

WHEREAS, Based in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, Children of the City has
been responding to the critical needs of families coping with trauma,
academic frustration, drug abuse, delinquency and despair since 1981;
and

WHEREAS, In addition, Children of the City strives to change the
culture of poverty through education and outreach, one child at a time;
and

WHEREAS, Over the past 36 years, Children of the City has conducted
over 300,000 home visits, given holiday meals and gifts to 15,000
families in crisis, and provided lifesaving intervention to dozens of
families; in addition, this vital organization has provided intensive
academic support to over 3,000 children and youth in the past 13 years;
and

WHEREAS, The success of Children of the City is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its Founder and Executive Director Joyce
Mattera, and her staff, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the institution and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Children of the City upon the occasion of hosting its 4th Annual
David Tyree Charity Bowl on June 6, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Joyce Mattera, Executive Director, Children of the City.
